"For the past 8 months, we have been attending the Beginning Yoga class at our local health club. During this period, we had a variety of instructors. All were good technically in teaching us the positions. Some even touched on a few of the other yoga elements. One day we arrived to find that we had another new teacher, Monu Harnal..."

Offerings

They say the knowledge of yoga exists in all of us; we simply need guidance to our own truth. IllumeYoga offers personalized Hatha yoga training and guided meditation to those who are seeking to establish a regular practice.

  • We offer individual or group instruction in a space of your choice. Individuals, groups, organizations, children and prenatal practitioners are some of our clientele.
  • We teach at all levels, from introductory to advanced.
    • The training begins with an initial consultation "in person or on the phone" to discuss your particular needs and goals, both physical and mental.
    • Then, we determine how many sessions you'd like and how often you'd like to schedule them. Generally, a session lasts 60 or 90 minutes, depending on your needs, goals, and preferences.
    • Each session integrates the five basic components of yoga: proper breathing; proper poses; relaxation; meditation; and diet. Emphasis on any particular component is tailored to your individual needs and situation.
    • While guiding students through yoga positions, we encourage you to delve into yourself to reveal answers that lie dormant within. We'll be by your side to guide you through your process of illumination. With regular practice you will increase concentration and stamina; your mind will be clear, calm and balanced. You will also notice a marked change in flexibility, strength and posture.
    • To augment your experience, we offer guided meditation. For more information about what's included in a session, please see the section Understanding Hatha Yoga.
  • We teach throughout the Metropolitan Washington DC area.

Please note: The purpose of training is to identify and then regularly practice the series of poses that most enhance your body, mind and spirit. For those just beginning, we believe it typically takes up to eight weeks to begin incorporating yoga as a regular practice and experiencing the sustained benefits it offers. But you may begin experiencing benefits soon after starting, from greater balance and flexibility to increased focus and energy. As you begin to incorporate yoga in your life, you and your teacher may modify the number of sessions you do together, or the frequency at which you do them.
